How much does a surf lesson cost?
Prices depend on the lesson type, duration and number of people. Usually, surf lessons start from LKR 5’000 per person with a 1:1 instructor.
Why are some schools cheaper?
There may be cheaper surf lessons available on the beach but we believe a good surf lesson is about more than just the price. Long Surf School has been running since 2015, with experienced instructors, well-maintained boards and a strong focus on safety. We want every guest to feel comfortable, supported and safe in the water.
Can I take surf lessons all year round?
In general, yes. We offer surf lessons all year round when conditions are safe. For us, the main season is usually from September to May. During this time, the sea is often calmer and conditions are usually better for surf lessons. During the monsoon season the ocean can be rough and lessons may not always be possible. Safety always comes first. Amila will check the conditions and let you know if a lesson is possible.

Do I need surfing experience?
No. Most of our guests are beginners. We start with the basics on the beach and then help you step by step in the water.
Who can join a surf lesson?
Our surf lessons are suitable for beginners, intermediate surfers, adults, and children who are comfortable in the water.
How long is a surf lesson?
A surf lesson usually takes around 60-70 minutes. This includes beach instructions, safety briefing, and time in the water.
What is included in a surf lesson?
The lesson includes surfboard, leash, rashguard/surf shirt, instruction and safety guidance, help in the water
What should I bring?
Please bring swimwear, towel, sunscreen, water, and a change of clothes.
When is the best time for a surf lesson?
The best time is usually in the morning or late afternoon depending on the waves, wind, and tide. We will recommend the safest and best time for your level.
Is surfing safe for beginners?
Surfing always involves some risk but we choose suitable conditions for beginners and give safety instructions before going into the water. Lessons only take place when the conditions are suitable.
FAQ Rent a Bike
Do I need a driving licence?
Yes. The renter must have a valid motorcycle licence recognized in Sri Lanka. Tourists should also carry an International Driving Permit.
Is a helmet included?
Yes. Helmets are provided and must be worn by the rider and passenger at all times.
What happens if I return the motorbike late?
Late returns are charged per hour after the agreed return time.
What happens if the motorbike is damaged?
The renter is responsible for damage during the rental period.
What happens if a helmet, key, or accessory is lost?
Lost or stolen accessories must be replaced with a new item of equal or better quality, or paid at replacement value.
Can someone else drive the motorbike?
No. Only the renter / authorized driver listed in the agreement may drive the motorbike. Lending or sub-renting the motorbike is not allowed.
Can I rent a motorbike all year round?
Yes. Motorbike rentals are available all year round. Just keep in mind that rain can be stronger during monsoon season, so please ride carefully and check the weather before longer trips.
What should I do in case of an accident?
Inform Amila immediately and contact the police. A police report, photos and details of the accident may be required.

Where exactly can I find Long Surf School?
Long Surf School is located at the beach entrance next to the Taj Hotel in Bentota, Sri Lanka.
Is it only for hotel guests?
No. Long Surf School welcomes all visitors, whether you are staying nearby, coming from another hotel or visiting Bentota for the day.
What is the main season for Long Surf School?
Our main season in Bentota is usually from September to May. This is when most tourists visit the south-west coast and when conditions are usually best for surf lessons, beach days, motorbike rentals and local tours.
During the slower monsoon season, we still offer surf lessons, motorbike rentals, and tours whenever possible (depending on the weather and ocean conditions).
When is the best time to visit Sri Lanka?
Sri Lanka can be visited all year round. The best area to visit depends on the season and the weather.
For Bentota and the south-west coast, the main season is usually from September to May. During this time, the sea is often calmer and conditions are usually better for beach holidays and surf lessons.
From around May/June to August/September, the south-west monsoon season can bring stronger wind, rain and rougher ocean conditions. During this time the sea in Bentota can sometimes be too rough for beginner surf lessons.
Do you offer tours all year round?
Yes. Tours can be arranged all year round. During the south-west monsoon season, the north and east of Sri Lanka are often better areas to visit. If the weather in Bentota is not ideal, Amila can help you plan trips to other parts of the island.
Is Long Surf School responsible for injuries?
Surfing and motorbike riding involve risk. Guests are responsible for their own safety and must follow instructions. Long Surf School and its staff are not responsible for accidents, injuries or loss unless otherwise required by law.
